I am in Arizona missing you and wishing I could be there with you. You are a one of a kind friend.

    Brian,

Hey, long time no talk to. I wanted you to know that Stacey has been keeping us up to date with what is going on with you and that you have been in our thoughts and prayers.

Brian, you truly define the word “hero.” What inspiration and positive energy you emit. May God bless you and your family and guide the doctors in their efforts, sharpen their insights, sustain their focus and deepen their desire to do the most that can conceivably be done. You are so the person I would hope to be in the same situation. We can all learn from you!

PS. Disney sounds like a fantastic idea!! :)

    God Bless.

    Everyone,

I got to leave the house today. My Mom and little sister came into town to do Christmas shopping. I got to spend 3-4 hours out of the house. Although I have not driven in awhile I was able to make it with no issues. This gives me more confidence to get out.

Thank you to everyone who has sent me an email or placed something on this blog. Everyone has been so great. If I did not have a hard time talking or walking you could not tell that I have anything wrong with me. I still have a very positive attitude and feel like I can take on the world.

I have a sleep study this Saturday night. Since I have trouble with my throat- breathing, talking and eating-my snoring has become as issue. I am doing this sleep study because my doctors believe that if I can stop snoring I can get a better nights sleep which will help with my fatigue. I am not sure about it but they are the doctors.

Not much else going on. Getting ready to have Christmas at my older sisters house in Atlanta. My little sister, older sister and me-with our spouces-are all getting together the weekend on Dec 15th to have Christmas. I will spend Christmas Day at my little sisters house with my parents.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

    I Love You ALL!

Sorry Shah…I know this is all about you, but just wanted to say hi to them. just kidding!

Hi Brian- we’ve never met, but Ashley and I went to school together and Aubrey is my best friend. I’ve been keeping up with you through them and want you to know that you and Ashley are not only in my prayers, but the prayers of our church each week. Let the Lord lift you up, the Bible says he will set our feet upon a rock that cannot be shaken. I’m going to add your site to my blogroll and will be keeping up with you!

  7. Steve Says:

good luck on the sleep study…i’ve bounced many a shoe off your head at night trying to get you to stop snoring.

  8. shah1199 Says:

Well I went to the sleep study and it was OK. They hooked me up to about 20 different wires which the attached to my body. Most of them were on my head and face. The study went fine. Ashley got to spend the night with me. The lady was really nice. We have no results yet but we see our ENT on the 27th of Dec. I have a GI scheduled for this week. Not sure what it is and what it is for but the doctor said I needed it. I have been to the doctor more times in the last 2 months than in my whole life. Oh well one more will not hurt.

Not much going on. Ashley and I are getting ready to go to my older sisters this weekend to celebrate Christmas. My little sister and her husband are meeting us also. It will be the kids only-no parents.

My parents came in town on Sunday-yesterday. It was great. We talked a lot and went to lunch. Ashley and I have been looking for a house. We want to move out of our apartment by Feb 1st but it is hard to find a house with all the variables we have. Stairs are tough so we need a 1 story. We need a bigger bathroom and more room to move around. We find the perfect house in the wrong area or the wrong house in the right area. It is more stressful then finding out about my disease.

Well please keep the blogs coming. It is great that so many people have posted comments. There are some of you that I have not heard from in 10+ years. Do not worry, staying in communication is a 2 way street. I lost contact they same way you did. I wish the circumstanceses were different but what matters is that we found each other. If there are others out there that do not have my email or blog address, please forward the info to them.

    Take care everyone.
    Love Brian

    Hey Brian:

Just wanted to send a note to let you know that a lot of people in AZ are thinking of you - everyday!! We are all so happy we got to meet you and Ashley at Kevin and Stacy’s wedding! It’s so nice to be able to put ” a face with your name”. Now when Kevin talks smack about who’s the better looking friend… we all know - it’s not him! Haha!!

We are sending lots of positive thoughts your way… Hang Tough!!!!!

    Your friends in AZ,

Kelly(Kevin’s older sister), Gregg, Brea and Seth

  12. Shane Says:

    How was Atlanta?

  13. Kevin Fretheim Says:

    Brian,

What is my big sister Kelly talking about? I never talked smack about being the best looking. When your pretty you don’t talk about it. :) I hope you are enjoying time off from work and spending time with Family.

    Big Pretty!

  14. shah1199 Says:

    Everyone,

Sorry that it has been a while since the last update.

Not a whole lot going on. Atlanta was great. It was awesome to hang out with my sisters and spouces. We had a pre-Christmas where we all exchanged gifts. I got “Live Free or Die Hard” DVD and a stainless steel skillet. It was great. Ashley got a gift card to get her hair done. It was cold in Altanta. We saw snow flurries on Saturday but not enough to stick.

Well I go back to work tomorrow. We are only open until 2pm but it is going to be nice. I am excited to get back to work. I hope I will be able to continue working after the week. Ashley gets off work tomorrow at 3pm and then we are heading to Sumter to have Christmas with my little sister and parents. We will drive back to Columbia Christmas Day as I have to work on Wed. Ashley is off Wed.

Steve Barger, my friend from adidas who lives in Penn. and was a groomsman in my wedding, surprised me last Mon. He drove in just to hang out and it was a huge surprise. He and Ashley had been planning it for 2 weeks and if you know my wife, for her to keep a secret for that long is beyond me. Steve and I went to dinner Mon night with Darr. Tuesday we went out to do some shopping and we drove around and I showed Steve Columbia. He left to go home Tuesday night. Short visist but it was awesome for him to drive down 9 hours just to see me and hang out. Thanks Steve!

Ashley used her gift card to go brunette. She has the same style but changed to color. No more blonde. It looks great. It is like sleeping with a different woman and I do not get in trouble-ha ha!

Well I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. All of you have been awesome giving Ashley and I support during this tough time that I am sure no one is getting coal in their stocking this year. You should expect Santa to visit all of your houses and bring you lots of gifts and joy.

    Have a wonderful Christmas!
    We love all of you!
    Brian and Ashley

  15. Kelli and Alex Says:

Happy New Year! We are thinking of you and hope that this is a better year for you guys- you definitely deserve it! Thanks for keeping up updated and let us know if you need anything. Alex wants to have dinner again soon; he loves you guys dearly.

  16. Kim Ford Says:

Hey Brian and Ashley…it’s lil ol me Kim Ford. Tiersa passed the blog info to me while I was at home for Christmas. I pray for you all the time Brian. I miss yall. How was your New Years? I included my myspace site above check out all the pictures! Love you, take care.

  17. Darr Says:

    Shavaliere,

I hope you and Ashley get a great house! I can’t wait to come over and kick it in the new ganja room.

  18. shah1199 Says:

    Hello Everyone,

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

We had an awesome New Year. A big thank you goes out to Mark and Michelle Thomas for having a party at their house. It was a great time and we got to watch Clemson and Florida loose. What a great day! Then the next day we watched Georgia win-Ashley’s team and since the Gamecocks did not make it I could pull for them.

Everyone has been great at helping us out, we want to send a special THANK YOU to 2 groups of people. Kevin Fretheim and family and the members of Northwest Christian Center Church. Kevin works for Gamestop now and was my DM for 6 years at adidas. Northwest Christian Center is Ashley’s church from Oklahoma City. There are no words in the world that can express the appreciation we have for you and your donation. I am overwhelmed by the love and support that has come from all of the country. Thank you. Your love and support helps me be strong and fight this disease.

Lastly, Ashley and I bought a house! We saw one last week that we fell in love with and signed the final papers on Wed of this week. We close on the house Jan 25th. We are SO EXCITED! It is a nice 3 bedroom 2 bath. It needs a little work being updated but we are just happy to find something that will be ours. We will post pictures when we get them.

Oh one more thing. I have decided to stop working. I had missed some work this week and decided that it would be best for me and my branch to go on disability full time. I feel more relaxed not having to drive each day and all the pressure to performe at work. It is the best thing for us right now. So I am home everyday. Send emails if you have time and we can keep in touch.

    Everyone take care.

  19. Kelli Says:

Congratulations on the house. Let me now if there is anything I can do to help you get moved. I can not wait to see the house. Hope you are feeling well. See you guys soon.

  20. Liz Says:

Hi, Brian! I’m so excited to read that you and Ashley have bought a house. Scott and I are not handy in the least but we are great movers — please let us know if we can help pack, move, or give general support in anyway.

It was great to see you at the New Year’s party. We hope to see you again soon!

Take care and just let us know if you need us. You and Ashley are in our constant thoughts and prayers.

  21. Kelly Baughn Says:

Hey B! Buying a house - so exciting! Good luck with the plans…

Well, we are off to Portland next week for the annual meeting - definitely isn’t the same without you there! You could always roll your eyes at the perfect time and not get caught - that’s talent!!! Oh, and drink Josh Bowler under the table WITHOUT taking off your pants to do it! So much has changed since you have left and who is to say which was better? All I know is that I miss being able to call you and complain about why it isn’t going “our way”. I can’t believe I have stayed with adidas so long - I guess Kevin really sold me when he hired me, either that or I am just too lazy to look for something better! You guys really made this place feel like family…

My little girl is growing up so fast - she looks just like Tony and acts just like ME! She turned one in December and got way more toys than any kid in the world needs!

Your old stockroom girl that works at Burlington here now keeps coming by my store to check on you. I gave her your info so hopefully she will get in touch with you.

Good luck with the new/old doctors and you and your family are in our prayers as ALWAYS!

    Love ya B!

  22. Steve Says:

Be sure to get all of your screwdrivers filled with the proper (straight-head or phillips) fluid before you need them at your new house. Painting suggestions: brown is the new blue and pink is no longer en vogue. I’m guessing that the kids (Darr) room will be some sort of Super Friends theme, so may I suggest Aqua Man. Other than that, remember to cut twice and measure once. Movie to get you in the mood: Money Pit starring Tom Hanks.
Congrats and good luck with the new house.

  23. David Prince Says:

Shah, congrats on the new house. I hope all is well. You still owe me a case of beer.

  24. Shane Says:

“Oh hell, just throw it out the window”. Can’t remember if it was you or Prince who coined the phrase at Preston, but we are looking forward to getting together soon and seeing the new house.

Please let everyone know when we all have an excuse to get together and help with the move in.

    Congrats!!

  25. Steve Says:

What up B. Glad to hear that everything is coming together with the house and that Ross was able to hook you guys up with his contractor. adidas is having a big event in Charlotte in mid-March so I’m hoping to be down that way. I’ll email you the details as soon as I find out. As always, let me know if you need anything.
